Updated: Mar 25, 2022

What to watch when you have nothing else to do

You know that feeling when you're home and you have no idea what to do? Well, there are always those movies that won't fail to entertain you. These are the top 3 Rom Coms for any time of the year, great for when you’re feeling down or on top of the world.

1) 10 Things I Hate About You

First real date and kiss between Kat and Patrick.

10 things I hate about you is the famous rom-com released in 1999 starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger (who sadly passed away in 2008). This movie is about a father who forbids the younger, popular sister Bianca Stradford (Larisa Oleynik) to date someone unless the older sister Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) dates someone, too. Kat was a rebellious girl who hated boys, so it was a very difficult deal. In order to go out with Bianca, this one boy who had fallen in love with her desperately tries to set up Kat with Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger), another rebel kid who will try and make Kat fall in love with him. This is my number one favorite rom-com. I have watched this movie about 20 times and I don’t get bored of it. If you haven't seen this movie let me tell you, you are missing out on a lot.

2) How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

How to lose a guy in 10 days is a 2003 rom-com with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. This movie is about Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) who works for a magazine and starts writing an article called “How to lose a guy in 10 days”. She has to date a guy and drives him away in 10 days. In the meantime, Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey) is trying to get his company advertised by a diamond company. Ben’s boss is questioning if Ben has the romance typically needed to associate with diamonds, so Ben makes a bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. As soon as their missions start, Ben and Andie meet each other at a party, and you can imagine what happens next. I love this movie because it can make you have a good laugh but also a good cry. So if you are ever in the mood for both, you now know what to watch.

3) Failure to Launch

Failure to Launch is a rom-com released in 2006 with Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker. The plot of this movie is one I haven’t seen before. It is about a guy named Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) who is 35 years old and refuses to leave his parents’ house. His parents can’t have him there anymore so they hire Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) whose job is to make guys move out of their parent’s house when they can’t do it themselves. Everything that happens next is a rollercoaster so I would recommend that you watch it. In my opinion, this movie has a very unique plot and I really enjoyed the ending of it.
