Volodymyr Zelensky: from comedian to wartime leader

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

Zelensky played as Ukraine’s president on TV and is now Ukraine’s president in real life

Just a few years ago, Volodymyr Zelensky was a comedian and actor playing Ukraine’s president on television. Now, he’s a wartime leader directing his country in its fight against a Russian invasion. President Zelensky had a good career as a comedian and actor. He hosted a comedy show, “Liga Smeha” (“League of Laughter”), and won Ukraine’s “Dancing With the Stars” in 2006. He also voiced the titular cartoon bear in the Ukrainian version of “Paddington.” His most important appearance on TV was being the star of the show “Servant of the People.”

Before the invasion people had different opinions about Volodymyr Zelensky. Some people thought that he didn’t have what was necessary to be the president of Ukraine. With the Russian invasion that began on 24 February 2022, he proved that he had what was necessary and more. President Zelensky has shown a lot of courage by staying in the country and fighting with his soldiers.

Volunteers from all over the world are helping Ukraine stop the Russian invasion. President Zelensky has maintained a strong spirit in the defense of Ukraine in spite of being the enemy’s #1 target. Perhaps his most famous quote is “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.” It reveals that he is committed to his country and his people, and has set an example for all other world leaders to follow. I think that this conflict is going to end in the following months with a treaty made by both sides.
