An abhorrence letter from a dispirited, sorrowful student
Dear Friday Detention,
We haven’t talked in a while
and some transgressions have gone by,
but to be honest
I’m glad I didn’t have you by my side.
I got used to your absence,
the peace over family dinner,
and it all made sense
cause I got a little more time off.
I created a habit,
hit snooze more than once (as I was in my zone)
and thank you
‘cause I was able to use my phone.
Falling asleep in class became normal;
it stopped being one of our many sins.
The school uniform was no longer formal:
Blue nails, pink socks, and colorful rings.
But now that you’re called upon,
I’ll have to get used to that.
I wanted to move on,
but having you is an obligation.
Sincerely,
Me.
